New Helmholtz Cloud Service: Kadi4Mat Can Manage Any Type of Research Data
From Data Management to Reproducible Research Workflows
To efficiently manage the large volumes of new data generated every day remains an ongoing challenge for scientists. Workflows must be transparent and facilitate collaboration across institutions and disciplines. To meet these requirements, Kadi4Mat is now available as a new service in the Helmholtz Cloud, provided and supported by KIT.
Originally developed for materials science, Kadi4Mat is a generic, open-source virtual research environment that can be used across a wide range of scientific disciplines and use cases. It combines two capabilities that are often separated in research infrastructures: structured research data management and the execution of documented, reproducible digital workflows.
What makes Kadi4Mat particularly valuable for researchers is its focus on the entire research lifecycle. Instead of only serving as a repository for published results, the platform helps teams organize and exchange so-called “warm data” — research data that is still being analyzed, discussed, and refined. At the same time, its electronic lab notebook functionality enables users to automate, document, and reproduce analysis and processing workflows through a flexible API-based framework.
