User Login¶
Click-by-Click Tutorial¶
Like for all Helmholtz Cloud Services, you can use your home institution’s login to use the service seamlessly. This is managed via the Helmholtz ID / AAI (Authentication and Authorisation Infrastructure). This tutorial contains steps which are only at the first login or may not happen on every login. So the number of steps are the worst case.
1. Open the service — in this example the HIFIS Event Management Platform — in your browser. Do so by locating it in the Helmholtz Cloud Portal and clicking on “Go to service”, or direct access in the browser via https://events.hifis.net.

2. Login at the service by clicking on the button at the top right.

In some cases, you need to additionally click on Helmholtz ID / AAI. This step is mostly skipped.

3. Select your home organisation, i.e. the organisation where you already have your home account. You can scroll down or use filtering, e.g. helmholtz or desy. The example is about DESY. You have to find your own Helmholtz Centre or organisation.

Can’t find your institution or it is not supported? As a fallback, a login from ORCID, GitHub or Google can be performed. Select it accordingly.

4. Login at you home organisation using your username and passphrase of your home organisation. There is no new password or username required.

5. Accept data transmissions from your home organisation’s identity provider (IdP) to Helmholtz ID. Typically you can store your decision and your are not asked at the next time, unless some information has been changed.

6. Register at Helmholtz ID, if you log in the first time.
- Click on Register.
- Please check your name and mail address.
- Read and accept the AAI usage policies.
- Click on Submit.

- After an email has been sent to your mail address, please confirm your email by clicking on the link.

- Email confirmation is not performed if your register with an IdP from a German research centre or university.
- After you confirmed your email address, the account is created. You can now login to the service you want to use. Since the first login flow was interrupted, you need to restart at the service.
7. Policy and Terms of Use update need to be accepted from time to time, since there is a regular check of their content and possible updates.

8. Continue with normal log-in you need to accept the data transmission from Helmholtz ID to the service

You may choose to remember your decision, so you won’t be bothered again. If you later decide otherwise, you can revoke consent and delete stored data here.
9. Enjoy access to the Helmholtz Cloud Service(s)!
